Egg Carton Turtles

This summer I was planning my son’s birthday party and found it hard to find decorations in the store that fit our very specific theme. So I decided we could make some of them at home ourselves. Since it was an ocean creature theme we created these cute little turtles out of egg cartons. Egg cartons are so easy to upcycle! When we’re done with our eggs, I don’t just throw the carton away; I keep a stash of them for various projects. Besides making cute animals, you can also use the cartons for sorting games, holding paint for painting, storing beads and other craft supplies or even growing seeds!
Here’s how we made our egg carton turtles!

Materials:

egg carton
green paint
green paper
pom poms
wiggly eyes
glue

Instructions:

1. Cut the egg carton up into individual circles.  Trim the bottoms so they lie evenly.
2. Paint the egg cartons all over to make the turtle shell. Let them dry before going on to the next step.
3. Cut the green paper into flipper shapes. Glue the flippers inside the shell and fold out so they lie flat.  Glue on the pompoms to make the heads and add the eyes.
These cute little turtles are just one of many animals you could make with egg cartons! What other animals would you make?
