Coming Up: Working with Words and Clay

Mothering Matters – Switzerland

Children ages 8 to 12
are invited to a workshop
working with words and with clay!

Saturday, May 17th
13:30 to 15:30 at
Füürwärch Pottery Studio
in Dübendorf

Children’s author Andrea Cheng will present a workshop based on her award-winning book Etched in Clay, which tells the story of Dave the Potter, a real-life slave who created beautiful pots and often adorned them with short poems and couplets. Ms Cheng will also be happy to discuss her other works, which range from picture books like Grandfather Counts and chapter books like The Year of the Baby, to choices for young adults.

Workshop participants will be able to create their own clay piece, with or without words on it, which can be painted and fired there at the pottery studio.

Saturday 17. May 13:30 to 15:30
at Füürwärch Ceramic & Art Studio
Untere Geerenstrasse 2, 8600 Dübendorf

Cost:   Children,  CHF 10  |  Adults,  CHF 20

Price includes author presentation, clay, firing and a snack.
Parents may leave children for the two-hour workshop, or stay and participate!

    What a wonderful event! Thanks for attending, kids and mothers. The ceramics studio is really a great place to be creative. Love the pieces made there that day and I will post some pictures soon. The cafe next door is great, too. Brought home a dozen bagels and they were gone the next day! Thanks, Pam, and of course author Andrea Cheng!

    Thanks so much to Mary and all the participants in the Etched in Clay workshop. I came back to the States with wonderful memories and lots of ideas. I’d love to see more photos of the artwork created by the students when it was fired. Thanks for including me in your 20th year anniversary celebration.
