Clever Cake Stand

MainImageCropped4I have to thank my son’s playgroup teacher for this gorgeous craft, which I’ve adapted to fit my own needs.

This craft could be used in many different ways. For example, it would be a great activity at a cupcake party as a cute way to send home the cakes, or it is perfect for playing café or shop either with real or pretend food.

The stand works well when it is just one level, although I have made mine two tiers high.

Materials:

  • Plastic cups (one for each layer)
  • Plastic plates (one for each layer, a smaller size for each level).
  • Paper doilies (or napkins cut into circles)
  • Glue gun or strong glue
  • Stickers for decoration

Method:

  1. Glue the bottom of a cup to the bottom of a plate and allow to dry.
  2. Glue a paper doily or doily to the top surface of the plate.
  3. Repeat this action for each layer using a smaller plate for each tier.
  4. Glue the tiers together, attaching cup rims to plate surfaces. You can also attach a large plate at the bottom for stability.
  5. Decorate the finished stand with stickers and cake!
